From just this article I found it difficult to understand what the alternate process would be, but after a discussion in class and looking up what teach for america was about, I was able to have a better idea. I think that in some ways the idea of a quicker route is a great idea. I think that taking two years to do general education classes that are a lot like high school is good for some, but not necessary for others. For those who do not know what profession they want to go into, the two year gap is great to figure stuff out, and it is also good for maturity. But for those who have been out in the workforce for many years and just want something new, general education classes seem pointless. In that sense, a two year program is a wonderful idea to get them in their new field quicker as long as they are required to go through the same standards as those that choose the four year program (student teaching, field experinces, licensure tests etc.). Overall this is a great idea for those who want to change careers mid way through life, but I am not sure it is the best route for kids coming right out of high school.
